2016 Beneficiary - Clayton, Bettendorf, IA
Clayton is a charming, happy and lovable 6 year old boy who is adored by his little sister and everyone who meets him. Clayton was diagnosed with regressive Autism at 3 1/2 years of age. He had a mostly typical infancy and hit all his milestones up to age 2 including using hundreds of words. From age 2 1/2-3 1/2 Clayton gradually lost his speech. This regression along with other typical red flags including massive fits, spinning, flapping, non-typical play and high anxiety to everyone and everything in his environment led us to seek as much help as possible and resulted in a diagnosis of Autism. A service dog will be highly trained specifically to Clayton's needs and be able to sense when Clayton is having anxiety and distract and redirect him from the anxiety, which will provide him with the confidence to do more and more. Clayton loves being outdoors and a service dog will be trained to stay by his side keeping him safe as well as the training to track him if needed. With a service dog by his side, it will also bring awareness to the public that Clayton has special needs, which may be difficult to identify otherwise. Lastly a dog will be a constant companion to Clayton that will assist with his social interactions and provide him a bond of friendship that he may not otherwise achieve. Clayton continues to amaze us with his accomplishments and we are confident that with a service dog as his partner in life, there's no stopping Clayton from having the ability to be the best he can be.
